Named after renowned personality, JP Morgan, one of the most powerful bankers of his era, the term morganite evolved back in history. Initially, Morganite was discovered in 1911 by George Kunz, a friend of JP Morgan. Hence, Kunz decided to name this stone ‘Morganite’ to acknowledge the financial support and assistance offered by Morgan.

Morganite is a durable gemstone that comes in velvety shades of pink. It is a blend of orange and soft pink colors and is mined mostly in Brazil, Afghanistan, Mozambique, Madagascar, the United States, and other regions. Morganite's chemical structure consists of Beryllium and aluminum which gives this gemstone a peachy pink tint.

Morganites usually do not occur in large sizes as other beryls. However, in 1989, Ronald and Dennis Holden discovered a morganite that was 30 cm wide at the Bennett Quarry in Maine. The “Rose of Maine” roughly weighed 115,000 cts, approximately 50 lbs, the largest ever found in North America.

What Is The Significance Of Morganite Jewelry?

Morganite jewelry is known for its spiritual values. The stone is mainly associated with love and attraction, which makes it an excellent choice for an engagement ring. It is said to build a deep connection of love the moment you wear it. Some jewelry enthusiasts claim that morganite also reduces stress and anxiety, improves productivity, and uplifts your mood. Another factor that makes morganite a perfect gemstone for jewelry is its hardness of 7.5-8 on the Mohs hardness scale.

Why Is Morganite Jewelry So Affordable?

Yes, you will be amazed to know that despite its rarity and unique attributes, morganite is comparatively cheaper than other precious stones. The per carat cost of a morganite is 1/10th compared to that of a diamond, making it highly affordable. It is a rare stone that is found in consolidated places. However, unlike in the diamond industry, these places are not controlled by any cartels and this briefly explains why these semi-precious stones are pocket-friendly.
